Louisiana considering teacher pay raise package

The governor's proposed budget includes an annual pay raise of $2,375 each for Louisiana's 56,893 certified teachers and administrators. In addition, most teachers would get another $1,300 through the state's Minimum Foundation Formula. State Sen. Robert Adley (D-Bossier City) pointed out that the public school raises would make Louisiana teachers paid more than those in Arkansas, Texas and Mississippi. Another article in the Daily Advertiser mentions that the Legislature is considering raising the governor's salary to $135,000, making that position the 2nd highest paid in the country behind Maryland ($150,000).
