Texas HB3818 creates economic development committee for East Texas (including Bowie Co.)
The Longview News-Journal reports this morning that the Texas House passed legislation that would create an economic development steering committee for the Texas-Louisiana border region. Here's a copy of the bill, which passed after funding was removed. Although that hurts, the sponsor says that the committee can at least begin working on a strategic regional plan. A similar committee is already in existence for the Rio Grande Valley region, which has received millions of dollars in funding according to Gregg Co. Judge Bill Stoudt.
A quick review of the statute shows that Bowie County is included in the region. Like everything else associated with the border, both sides of the state line can benefit from such a project. Other partnerships in the area that are making some headway include the North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (south of here) and the Golden Triangle Economic Development Council (east of here).
