Former Rep. Timothy Hutchinson filed suit on behalf of 17 year-old Lisa Marie Stansell today, who was recently denied a marriage license because she is a minor and not pregnant -- she did have parental consent. The Complaint seeks a declaratory judgment, costs, fees, and a writ of mandamus to force the clerk to issue the license. She turns 18 in December, so unless a ruling is obtained prior to that, one option would be to hop in the car and drive 25 miles to the west or north across the state line to get a license legally.
The Harrison Daily Times has an article this morning reporting that both Boone and Carroll Counties have issued licenses to 17 year-olds since the law went into effect.
