Constitutional dogfight

Four Arkansas cities with pit bull bans can remain in effect after federal Judge Leon Holmes denied a motion Wednesday to stop the enforcement of the ordinances. The four Arkansas cities with such ordinances include Beebe, Jacksonville, North Little Rock and Lonoke. Here's the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article.

There has been mention of legislation that would make this a statewide effort. Animal organizations say breed bans don't keep residents safe because they fail to target the real problem: irresponsible pet owners. These ordinances have normally been enacted after incidents that have caused fatal or other serious injuries, and city officials want to protect the public from future incidents.
