Toning down inaugurations

With the economy in the shape it's in, many governors who were elected last month have been trimming down on the glitz factor for the balls and events that accompany the swearing-in ceremonies. Facing an estimated $545 million state budget deficit, Delaware’s new governor-elect, Democrat Jack Markell is foregoing the traditional ball and instead is encouraging state residents to volunteer at non-profit organizations and charities the weekend after his swearing-in.
