Talking law enforcement benefits with Cooter

I'll be the guest speaker at the Thursday luncheon of the Arkansas Municipal Police Association convention, which is being held here in Texarkana. Also speaking at the convention will be Ben Jones, otherwise known in these parts as Cooter Davenport from the Dukes of Hazzard. Jones served two terms in the United States Congress as a Democrat and is a contributing writer to the Washington Post.

Ashdown Police Lt. Bobby Walraven will become the next president of the state organization at the convention, and in 2010, Texarkana, Ark. Police Department Officer Kevin Sanders will assume the duties of president. The AMPA has tried unsuccessfully to make bulletproof vests more accessible and to increase death benefits to spouses of officers killed in the line of duty.

I'm in Little Rock today in legislative meetings and for a meeting of the Prostate Cancer Foundation Board, so I'll be away from the blog for much of the day.
