California joins list of states setting Feb. 5 as 2008 presidential primary election date

Arkansas, of course, has also joined this list of states that includes Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Missouri, Oklahoma and Utah. Caucuses/primaries in Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina are currently scheduled for January with New Hampshire kicking it all off on January 22nd. New Hampshire law, though, allows that state's Secretary of State to sit back and wait until all other states have picked a date before setting the date of the nation's first primary.

The Nashua (NH) Telegraph reports that the 2008 NH primary may be moved to January 8. Pretty soon, we may find ourselves having New Year's Eve voting parties.

I have written in previously about the possibility of instituting regional primaries that would rotate each presidential election.
