Thursday's visit with members of the Taiwan legislature
Part of today was spent visiting with members of the Legislative Yuan and discussing the functions and powers of the legislature. We talked at length about Taiwan industry located in the United States and the role states can play in the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Pictured with me to the right is Jung-Chi Chung, Vice President (Deputy Speaker) of the Taiwan Legislative Yuan. We talked about Senator Bumpers and his trips to Little Rock and Springdale. We also talked about the Taiwanese Formosa plant in Magnolia (J-M Manufacturing as we know it). He talked about Taiwan's transition from an agronomy-based economy to one driven by high-tech industries -- it was quite a fascinating meeting.
