Doug Thompson on the Arkansas State Library aid standards

Doug Thompson's Saturday column focuses on library aid and references this article from last week's NWA Morning News. Here's an excerpt from this morning's column:

There are 235 public libraries in this state. Of those, 11 don't meet the minimum standards to get the limited state taxpayer support that's available. Of those 11, eight are in Benton County...The state is considering giving some money to the 11 that can't meet the "standards," such as they are...If the state library's directors decide to grant Benton County the state's largesse, the Legislature should take it back in the 2009 session.
