Proposal to prohibit tobacco products in the House fails
The proposed rule to prohibit the use of all tobacco products in the House Chamber and House committee rooms is being debated now in the House Chamber. I'm voting for the prohibition.
Representative Pam Adcock (D-Little Rock), the sponsor, just explained the amendment, and Rep. Gene Shelby (D-Hot Springs) is speaking for the proposal now.
Update (11:20 a.m.): Rep. Rick Saunders (D-Hot Springs) spoke against the amendment, and Rep. Randy Stewart (D-Kirby) spoke in favor of the amendment. Rep. Billy Gaskill (D-Paragould) spoke against the amendment.
Update (11:25 a.m.): The amendment failed by a vote of 51-27 with 2 voting present. It needed 67 votes. Here's the roll call vote:
