Environmentalists hand out grades ahead of Earth Day

Environmental activists in Arkansas grade the state on "green" issues in an article by John Lyon today with the Arkansas News Bureau. Here's a summary:

B-: April Ambrose, founder and executive director of Arkansas Earth Day Foundation
B: Sasha Bowles, president of the Arkansas River Valley Audubon Society
C-: Jack Blackstone, executive director of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation
B: Glen Hooks, regional representative for the Sierra Club

Issues raised include the (1) Governor's Commission on Global Warming, (2) the proliferation of businesses and nonprofits focusing on "green" issues, (3) the lack of a dedicated revenue stream for environmental remediation from the recently-increased severance tax, and (4) the proposed coal-fired power plant in Hempstead County. This year's Arkansas Earth Day Festival will be from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock.
