Miller County is state's top sales tax gainer of 2007
I see in Arkansas Business where Miller County increased its state sales and use tax receipts by 47% in 2007, which is by far tops in the state (we still rank 23rd in the ranking of total sales tax receipts). Little River County was second with an increase of 11%. Like Miller County Treasurer Ronnie Baird, I don't have an explanation other than just a general increase in businesses opening here, but the figure is surprising.
We were named as the country's second fastest growing small metro by Forbes, and business is booming here, but virtually all of it is landing west of State Line Avenue. There just hasn't been one significant event that would lead to a 47% increase in receipts, at least in 2007. Here's more from Arkansas Business.
