Amtrak benefitting from gas prices
Amtrak has seen a windfall from ballooning gas prices that are sending increasing numbers of travelers from cars to trains. Between October and April, the company had a 10.6% ridership increase. Here's more from the Washington Examiner.
If high speed rail becomes a reality, I think a lot more travelers would look at rail as a viable alternative to flying and driving. It would also do wonders for the revitilization of our downtowns here in Arkansas, most of which are sorely in need of restoration.
