Arkansas runoff elections one week away
Three legislative primary runoffs will be held next Tuesday here in the state. There are numerous county runoffs, all of which will also be held Tuesday -- we have one runoff here in Miller County for constable in the Republican primary. The vote in the primary was 3 to 3, and we'll spend $ 1,600 to hold an election here to settle that one. Dave Bisbee and Bill Adams will face off in the Republican primary runoff for Benton County Judge. All judicial election runoffs will take place on November 4. Here's a list of the three legislative runoffs:
2008 Legislative Races:
In House District 7, Garry Smith (D-Camden) faces Yancey Kyle (D-Smackover) in next Tuesday's runoff. In the May 20 primary, Garry Smith received 49% and was just 75 votes shy of avoiding the runoff. Yancey Kyle received 36%. House District 7 covers parts of Union and Ouachita counties in south Arkansas.
Smith and Kyle will appear at a forum to be held at 6 p.m. today in the Parkers Chapel School cafetorium in Union County. Former State Representative Mark Smith will serve as moderator. The media panel will include Shea Wilson, managing editor of the El Dorado News-Times, and Sandy Sanford, general manager of Noalmark Broadcasting. Questions will also be taken from the audience.
2008 Legislative Races:
In House District 16, James Word (D-Pine Bluff) will face Delton Wright (D-Pine Bluff). In the May 20 primary, Word received 39% and Wright 31%. Don Warren, a third candidate in the May 20 race, narrowly missed the runoff by 39 votes. House District 16 covers southern Pine Bluff.
2008 Legislative Races:
In House District 58, Jody Dickinson (D-Newport) will match up with L.J. Bryant (D-Newport) in the Democratic primary runoff. Dickinson received 32% in the May 20 primary, and Bryant garnered 27%. House District 58 is made up of Jackson County and northern White County.
I'll work on getting the legislative election pages up to date in the coming days.
