Congressman Lampson visits Texarkana
Congressman Nick Lampson (D-Houston) spoke of the need for a balanced budget and discussed some of the gridlock in Washington at last night's event here at my office. A Blue Dog Democrat, Lampson mentioned the Center Aisle Caucus, which he started after coming to Washington and seeing members of opposing parties refusing to even ride on the same airplane together.
The caucus requires a Democrat to bring a Republican, or vice versa. If you can't talk, you're not going to make much progress together. Lampson is running for re-election to the seat formerly held by Tom DeLay and faces a strong challenge from Pete Olson, former Chief of Staff for Texas Sens. Cornyn and Gramm.
