Scholarship funding restrictions among potential proposals
Some higher ed officials are in disagreement with proposals being recommended for the Ark. Dept. of Higher Ed's legislative package for the upccoming session. The most contentious proposal by Higher Ed Director Jim Purcell would reduce the amount of state funds and tuition income state colleges and universities can spend on scholarships from the current 30% to 15%. Purcell also proposes to set a viability threshold for degree programs so if not enough students are graduating with a certain degree, the program would be abolished. He says that these are fundamental things that we have to do if we want to participate in a modern economy. Click here for more from the Rob Moritz article.
