Alcoa takes spelling bee crown with oscilloscope
The team from Alcoa took the spelling bee crown from the Texarkana Gazette -- the defending champs -- by correctly spelling the word oscilloscope at last night's 15th Annual Literacy Council Spelling Bee in Texarkana. The Gazette team missed the word obstreperous. The Alcoa team made it to the final round by correctly spelling eleemosynary. I drove down to serve as the head judge after we adjourned from votes on the floor and made it in just in time. It was a late night getting back -- I had to pull over in Arkadelphia and chug a couple of cups of coffee to stay awake. Here I am with my helper and my fellow judge Dr. Bob Bell.
