Competing tax relief proposals (Updated)

Looks like there is some movement (mainly behind the scenes) on the 2007 tax relief package. We're voting today on the House alternative (HB1337), which is largely meaningless, as it appears as though a couple of the items sought in this package will be enacted (repealing the income tax for residents below the federal povery line -- a pricetag of $16 million), while other portions of it may go by the wayside (earned income tax credit). This would make both sides of this debate happy.

For what it's worth, I believe the one-half repeal of the state sales tax on groceries is very beneficial for Texarkana and southwest Arkansas.
Update: HB1337 passed by a vote of 85-12. The individual votes on this bill will be up at this link within a matter of minutes.
