Proposed constitutional amendments
Here's a quick rundown of the votes that took place moments ago in the joint committee:
HJR1003 (Abolishing office of Constable): Failed
HJR1004 (Annual Sessions): Passed
HJR1005 (Lottery): Failed on a House roll call vote of 10-9
HJR1006 (75% supermajority requirement for sales tax): Failed
SJR4 (revising voting/election language clean-up): Passed
SJR7 (Const. right to hunt): Failed on a House roll call vote of 10-10
SJR12 (Limitations of Legislative Branch): Failed
HJR1004 will be presented on the House floor, and SJR4 will go to the Senate floor. There is still room for one more, and the committee is likely to reconvene for further consideration. The contest will be whether the House now defers to the Senate to refer a 2nd proposal out (the long standing tradition is for the chambers to rotate which one gets to refer two proposals -- this session it is the House's turn, but we may have fumbled our opportunity).
