Current and future highway needs in Arkansas

Members of the Arkansas Highway Commission met with members of the Arkansas congressional delegation yesterday to discuss the state's highway needs, both present and future. Governor Beebe and Highway Transportation Director Dan Flowers were also in attendance.

Flowers cited $19 billion in needs in the coming decade, with only $4 billion in anticipated revenue over that same period. Beebe advocates an increase in the severance tax to fund highway construction. The federal legislators discussed the reauthorizing of the federal highway act in 2009.
