Louisiana speaker's race: Breaking a 200 year tradition?

Just about everything in Louisiana is done a little differently. Since 1812, the governor has chosen legislative leaders, including speaker of the House. Now, three veteran House members are doing the unheard-of and running for speaker. All four 2007 gubernatorial candidates are, to varying degrees, willing to go along with the change.
