Main Street Texarkana

I hosted a meeting of our Main Street Texarkana organization here at the office this morning. That's why I've been lax on getting stuff posted to the blog this morning. One problem downtown Texarkana faces is that it's just hard to get to. The River Market in Little Rock and the West End in Dallas have interstate access directly to their historic areas. In Texarkana, it's a 5-7 minute drive off I-30 down State Line Avenue. Compounding the problem for the Arkansas-side is that while we have a larger portion of downtown on our side of the state line, all of the growth is along I-30 in Texas. If we're ever able to tackle the Grim Hotel, I think downtown redevelopment will speed along at a much quicker clip. Here's a picture:
