CNBC Chief Washington Correspondent John Harwood

Here's some footage of John Harwood from earlier this morning (see below) speaking on the American political climate and the 2008 presidential election. It's his belief that McCain will garner more Democratic support than Bush received in 2004, and vice versa for Obama, but he gives a distinct edge to Obama based on current polling. He believes that Bush's numbers have to get to 40% in order for McCain to pull even, since they're inextricably tied on Iraq, at least according to the public. Potential running mates? He suggests Sam Nunn and Joe Biden on the Democratic side with Obama and Fla. Gov. Charlie Crist, SC Gov. Mark Sanford, La. Gov. Bobby Jindal, and Minn. Gov. Tim Pawlenty for McCain. Harwood is also the author of Pennsylvania Avenue: Profiles in backroom power, which is scheduled for release soon.
