A few notes
Congressman Ross invited me over to the Capitol on Monday evening for votes in the House chamber. A few minutes after arriving, I found myself huddled up with Ross, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Congressman Dennis Cardoza (defeated Gary Condit), and Congressman Don Cazayoux (D-Louisiana), who was just elected on Saturday. Cazayoux is an attorney, and we've had the opportunity to discuss a few cases in the past. A few minutes later, Congressman Snyder brought over Texas Congressman Nick Lampson. Pretty fascinating.
Voting in Congress is unlike anything we see in the State House. For instance, Ross had a resolution on the floor last night to honor the recipients of the El Dorado Promise Scholarship. The rules were suspended, and it passed, but on a table motion to reconsider, the vote fell down party lines, 216-180, as do all other apple pie resolutions.
