States look to rein in private Medicare plans

Here's an interesting article in Monday's NYT that highlights problems with marketing of private Medicare insurance plans to older Americans. Some are complaining about high-pressure sales tactics that have led some beneficiaries to sign up for unsuitable policies. Officials in some states say they will soon ask Congress for more power to regulate such marketing tactics. These tactics aren't foreign to southwest Arkansas. I had several complaints in 2007 from constituents with similar problems as outlined in this Texarkana Gazette article.
