Grant to create 127 storm cleanup jobs in Arkansas

The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded Arkansas a $1.9 million National Emergency Grant to create 127 temporary jobs to assist in clean-up and recovery efforts resulting from a recent series of storms, flooding and tornadoes. "Arkansans have taken care of each other through five months of storm recovery, and this grant money reinforces that continuing effort," Governor Beebe said.

"Thanks to the determined efforts of the members of our congressional delegation and the hard work of the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, we’ll be able to provide temporary jobs for our people who might otherwise be out of work due to this spring's severe weather," Governor Beebe said. The grant will fund temporary employment for the cleanup, demolition, renovation and reconstruction of homes, businesses and public lands within affected communities.

Priority in filling these positions will go to Arkansans whose jobs have been permanently or temporarily lost because of the storms and floods. Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Conway, Izard, Madison, Marion, Monroe, Newton, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, Saline, Searcy, Sharp, Stone and Washington Counties will be eligible for the grant-related jobs.
