Arkansas Dems to elect new chairman, other officers today-- UPDATE
I stayed here in Little Rock last night to attend today's State Committee Meeting of the Democratic Party. We'll approve the governor's nomination of Todd Turner of Arkadelphia to chair the party this morning and will also fill the positions of first vice chair, second vice chair, secretary and treasurer. The governor, outgoing DPA Chair David Pryor (pictured right w/ Beebe this morning), Attorney General Dustin McDaniel, Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter, and Secretary of State Charlie Daniels are also on the agenda.
Update (11:30 a.m.): Todd Turner's name was placed in nomination by Sen. David Pryor, and Turner was elected unanimously. I got two votes this morning, as in addition to my vote, I signed the proxy for Rep. Gregg Reep, who had to speak on behalf of the speaker at an event at the airport this morning. Sen. Tracy Steele acted as temporary chairman during today's meeting and oversaw the election and transition between Sen. Pryor and Turner. The picture above shows Pryor passing the gavel. Here's a link to a two year old post on the blog reporting from the party committee meeting in Hot Springs where Bill Gwatney was elected chairman.
