Rev. C.K. Yarber's 50th Anniversary Banquet -- Updated
I made it back in time tonight to head over to the college for the banquet honoring Rev. C.K. Yarber for his 50 years of ministry at Lonoke Baptist Church here in Texarkana. Here's a Texarkana Gazette article describing his commitment to the community and the state. He's been an Arkansas delegate to the Democratic National Convention (1966 in Chicago), and his ministerial and community memberships have included the religious advisory committee for the Arkansas Prison System, Southern Regional Council, chair of the Arkansas Voter Registration committee, president of the Miller County NAACP and Civil Service Commission of the Arkansas State Police.
Update (Sunday): The Sunday afternoon celebration was packed. Ministers and choirs from churches throughout the city attended, as did just about every elected official within 100 miles. Congressman Ross spoke and presented a framed speech he gave on the floor of the U.S. House this week memorializing the occasion.
