A good story on doing the right thing
Mike Bianchi's Saturday column is worth a read to hear a good story on the character of Tony Dungy, head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. I thought this was worth sharing:
When Dungy was the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, a friend of his in the media told him the particulars of a trick play an opponent planned to spring on the Steelers in a game. Dungy, feeling guilty about obtaining the information in such a clandestine manner, didn’t share it with anybody. Not his players. Not even legendary Coach Chuck Noll.Doing the right thing doesn't always turn out like this in the end, but it says a lot about his character. Ought to be a good game this afternoon between his unbeaten Colts and the unbeaten Patriots.
Sure enough, on the next Sunday, the opponent ran the exact play. And as Dungy stood on the sideline and watched a touchdown being scored on the Steelers, he felt miserable for not warning his players.
Then he saw the yellow flag. The play was nullified by a penalty.
