Louisiana primary is tomorrow
Louisiana is among four states and the Virgin Islands holding elections tomorrow. It's a closed primary, which means that voters must be registered as being affiliated with a party to vote in that party's primary. We're in the Shreveport media market down here, and all candidates have saturated the airwaves with campaign spots, especially Obama.
Louisiana's 67 Democratic delegates and 47 Republican delegates could have an impact on determining who wins the nomination, but fewer than 23,400 of the state's 2.8 million registered voters had cast ballots early or absentee as of midday Wednesday. Clinton has raised $595,984 in Louisiana, while Obama has raised $127,063, most of it in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Experts in the state believe Obama may have the edge on the Democratic side and that Romney's exit may allow for either McCain or Huckabee to reach the 50% threshold to pocket 20 delegates.
There's also a state House race in our area. House District 6 covers parts of Shreveport and Bossier City (Caddo/Bossier Parishes). The candidates are both Republicans: Thomas Carmody and Barrow Peacock. This is a general election, and it'll appear on all ballots, not just those in the Republican primary. The seat was vacated by Rep. Mike Powell (R-Shreveport), who resigned last December.
