Race is shaping up in House District 64
Term-limited Rep. Jim Medley (R-Fort Smith) told me back during the session that candidates for his seat probably wouldn't announce until very close to the filing period, and he was right. Two candidates have filed for the seat as of 3:00 p.m. today, and it is being widely circulated that former Rep. Jake Files (R-Fort Smith) and/or Congressman John Boozman's niece Stephanie will both file for the seat before the week is up. Here's a profile of the two candidates currently filed:
Democrat Mike Bock (left) filed for the seat today. Bock will be retiring in June after 35 years working for the state with local programs such as Bost, Abilities Unlimited and Stepping Stone. Bock graduated from St. Ann’s Academy and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ouachita Baptist University. He was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces. He’s previously served on the Sebastian County Quorum Court.
Republican Brandon Woodrome (right) is hoping to join Mack McLarty and Steve Smith to become among the youngest to serve in the state Capitol in Arkansas history. The Arkansas Constitution requires House members to be 21 years of age, and he'll turn 21 six weeks before the November election. Issues important to him include tax relief, education, marriage and the family, immigration, smaller government, and protecting the second amendment. You can find his site here.
