Governor declares two counties disaster areas

Governor Beebe declared Arkansas and Phillips counties state disaster areas yesterday due to the damage caused by tornadoes and thunderstorms on Saturday. These are the lastest in a long list of declarations for the year. Beebe declared 11 counties disaster areas after the May 2 tornadoes, 60 counties after the floods and tornadoes of March and April and 13 counties following the record-setting tornado outbreak of February 5.

The governor toured Stuttgart yesterday, where 50 to 60 homes and 15 businesses have been heavily damaged or destroyed. There have been nine confirmed injuries, one requiring hospitalization.
