Remembering 9/11

There are a host of memorials taking place across the state and nation today. Here locally, we'll participate in the "Honor & Remembrance - Saluting America's Heroes" event this morning at 10:00. The governor will attend the Pine Bluff Fire Department's 9-11 Commemoration Event at 9:50 a.m., and the Clinton School will host Geoff Morrell, Pentagon Press Secretary, tonight at 6:30 in Sturgis Hall.

As in years past, ceremonies are also being held in New York, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon in Virginia. Both Obama and McCain will make a joint appearance at ground zero in New York to honor the victims. At the Pentagon, President Bush is dedicating a new memorial opening to the public tonight. the two-acre park features 184 cantilevered benches and reflecting pools --one for each victim. In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, a new symbol honoring the 40 passengers and crew members who died on united flight 93. A 2-ton steel cross made out of world trade center steel will be placed near the crash site.
