KIPP Delta awarded $2.6 million grant
A press release from Sen. Steve Bryles reports that the KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) Delta College Preparatory School, a free, open-enrollment public charter middle school in Helena for underserved students, has been awarded a $2.6 million grant by the Charter School Growth Fund. The grant will be used to expand from two schools in Helena to 12 schools across the Delta region by 2019.
Bryles has been persistent in efforts to attract KIPP schools to the Delta. Here's a link to a 2006 column by John Brummett about charter schools in the Delta and Bryles' quest then to attract KIPP schools to Arkansas. An article about the grant made today's Democrat-Gazette.
