Little Rock - Memphis leg could extend high speed rail corridor

Today's Democrat-Gazette points out a provision in the Rail Safety Improvement Act that was sent to President Bush last week. It requires the U. S. Department of Transportation and the federal Railroad Administration to determine the feasibility of extending the South Central High-Speed Rail Corridor from Little Rock to Memphis, and it was added into the legislation by Congressman Marion Berry.

The corridor currently extends from Little Rock to San Antonio. This could shift the focus of linking the South Central High Speed Rail Corridor to other high speed rail systems currently in progress east of us (making revisions necessary to the map to the right).
