Training for the watermelon eating contest

The Watermelon Festival is Saturday in Hope, which means that I get to run in a 5K as fast as I can, then try to eat as much watermelon as I can in the watermelon eating contest. I've been beaten every year by the Vice Mayor of Hope, David "DJ" Johnson. I saw him Saturday night in Lewisville, and he claims that he's ready to defend his title (which he's had since 2004).

Others in the contest this year will be Governor Beebe, AG Dustin McDaniel, Congressman Mike Ross, Senator Larry Teague, Rep. Bubba Powers, and Rep. Monty Davenport, candidate for Land Commissioner. I'll head up to Arkadelphia afterwards to attend the annual Clinton Day dinner. Anyway, I'm ramping up my watermelon consumption ahead of Saturday's event, so look out.
