Local school bond election set
The proposed increase of 1.7 mills being advocated by TASD will be put before Texarkana, Arkansas voters on May 8th. If passed, the local tax rate would go from 38.9 to 40.6 mills. On a $100,000 home, that amounts to an increase of approximately $34 per year according to the Texarkana Gazette (taking into account the current homestead exemption of $300, which may be increased to $350 pursuant to pending legislation). The projects sought by the school district to be paid for by this increase amount to $8.2 million.
