Interesting consumer bill from Massachusetts

The Massachusetts House approved a measure last week that would require retailers to immediately notify consumers of a data security breach. Massachusetts has been hit with a series of high-profile security lapses recently, exposing millions of credit card holders to identity theft.

The bill also allows consumers to proactively freeze their own credit report (similar to Rep. Creekmore's bill here in Arkansas). The Boston Globe reports that consumers in states that allow freezes are not taking advantage of them.
