U.S. Government temporarily relaxes some passport requirements

Due to record-breaking demand for passports, the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security have temporarily relaxed air travel requirements to much of the Western Hemisphere as of today. Until September 30, 2007, passport applicants may enter and depart the United States for Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean with a government-issued photo identification and Department of State official proof of application for a passport. This accommodation doesn't apply to other countries. Finally, the modified requirement only applies to air travel. Traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda by other means does not currently require a passport.
