Life on the border: New Texas statute hurts Arkansans

In an effort to prevent illegal immigrants from becoming licensed tow truck drivers in Texas, the Texas Towing Act will go into effect September 1 preventing anyone without a Texas drivers license from being able to operate a tow truck in that state.

This means that all local tow truck employees in Texarkana that want to do business on the Texas-side must have a Texas DL. A local company just called to advise me that they're having to let go of their two Texarkana, Arkansas employees since they won't be able to operate a tow truck across State Line Avenue after next week. This is one reason that it's just as important to keep up with the goings-on in Austin as it is Little Rock.
