Silver-haired legislative session begins today
The 16th annual silver-haired legislative session begins today at the Capitol. Delegates are elected (one per county) and will act as legislators in this non-partisan session by writing, debating, and voting on bills addressing issues critical to older Arkansans. After the session adjourns, they'll contact legislators and bring us legislation they considered in hopes we'll address it in the upcoming session. Several of the bills debated at these mock sessions end up becoming law. Here's a link to their site, and here's the agenda.
My legislator is Sudie Jones of Miller County -- she's the lead sponsor of Bill No. 16, which would increase funding for senior citizen centers by $10,000 for each year of the biennium.
