Tug of war over stimulus revenue in at least one state

The Jackson Clarion Ledger reports that lawmakers in the Democrat-controlled Mississippi House approved a resolution Wednesday to bypass Republican Gov. Haley Barbour to accept all of the $2.8 billion in federal stimulus dollars for Mississippi themselves. Doesn't sounds like it'll get through the Senate over there, though. Don't look for a similar proposal here. Legislative leaders and the governor have already discussed stimulus proceeds, and we're on board with a mechanism to distribute this revenue in order to fund needed public works projects and to maximize jobs. Look for a state website next week that will provide more information on anticipated revenue from the stimulus.
