Update on teacher retirement holdings
I previously posted an entry about holdings in the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System wondering whether the trustees would divest interests in companies that operate in Sudan pursuant to a recent non-binding resolution adopted by the legislature and signed by Governor Beebe. Several states adopted similar resolutions.
Only one company identified as having a continuing interest in Sudan is held by the system (Austrian energy company OMV), and that holding is worth less than $1 million. The system does have an interest in the German-based Siemens, but that company has plans to voluntarily withdraw from Sudan. The trustees decided to keep OMV in the retirement system fund.
