Some House filing data
As of Friday afternoon, 64 of the 100 Arkansas House seats will remain Democratic seats without filed opposition. Going into the 2006 general election, 49 House Democrats were unopposed. Also as of Friday afternoon, 19 seats will remain Republican seats without filed opposition. Nine of those are incumbent Republicans, and seven "freshman" Republican candidates have no opposition. Three others will be decided by a Republican primary with no filed Democratic opponent. As of now, there will be 12 Democratic House primaries and six Republican House primaries. There will be an additional 17 races in the fall.
Of course, all of this can change by Monday at noon, which marks the closing of the filing period. As of now, though, the maximum Democratic pickup of seats is 6, while if the Republicans won every race in the fall, the maximum they could pick up is 11 seats from the current makeup of 75-25. I'll try and begin profiling some of the primary races and will update the 2008 Arkansas House Races page over the weekend (link at the top of the page).
